A demand response participant selects loads that can be curtailed in
state’s emergency period. Typically this means dropping the air-conditioning load in a portion of the building by increasing the thermostat levels by a few degrees or turning off equipment not essential to the business process for a short duration. The load curtailment will be up to a maximum of 1 event per day and 4 hours per event. It will not exceed 120 hrs per calendar year.
Mica-Tech’s Demand Response program is empowered by its robust UltraSatNet intelligent satellite communication system that has served the utilities for more than a decade.

- Earn cash: Earn thousands of dollars in cash regardless of whether the load reduction is actually called for. Mica-Tech’s program establishes an automated Demand Response system which provides high incentives for the participants. We get paid by the utilities for intelligently managing the load.
- Join the Green movement: Become an environmentally friendly organization and tout your Green Program. Your participation in our program helps California manage its energy demand intelligently. As a result, we do not have to build new generators that have irreparable consequences on our environment. We think that the cleanest energy to produce is the one you never need to generate. Now you can join the movement.
- Your participation in this program aids California’s power grid stability preventing power outages. During summer when typical demand of electricity peaks, there are times when power grid stability is at high risk as demands exceeds supply leading to power outages. By agreeing to drop power in emergency conditions, our customers directly aid towards California’s grid stability.
- No-cost: There are no initial and no recurring costs to be a participant in our Demand Response Program. This is an automated system that integrates seamlessly with your facility to control the loads selected by you. There is no need to train personnel and have them respond to utility requests to curtail load.
- Secure and Reliable technology: Mica-Tech’s Demand Response program is built on a unique non-public communication network that is free from cyber security threats. This technology is a satellite network and has served the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) needs of power utilities and hydro sites for more than a decade. It takes away all risks associated with public communication networks such as emails, phones, pagers that are prone to attacks from malicious hackers.

Who can participate in Mica-Tech’s program?
Customers with interruptible loads of 100kW minimum can become participants in Mica-Tech’s program. Interruptible loads are loads that can be dropped when a State emergency event is called.
What loads will be reduced and how often?
You select the loads. Normally these are loads that can be reduced for a short duration while not impacting any aspect of your business operation. For instance, in a large building space, increasing the thermostat level on some air conditioners qualifies as dropped load while this change may not even affect the ambient conditions since the events duration is limited. The load curtailment will be up to a maximum of 1 event per day and 4 hours per event. It will not exceed 120 hrs per calendar year.
What are the risks?
There are no risks to your business. It is an automated energy management system that drops only those loads that are pre-selected as non-critical to the business operation. The communication link is non public and it is the most secure and reliable link. There are no risks of cyber threats or hackers that can tap into a public communication network. Mica-Tech technology is entrusted by utilities that require only the most reliable and secure network to provide grid management. Our technology has served utilities for more than 10 years.
