Location: Kennesaw, Georgia
Artistic Director(s): Colleen Barnes
Audition:Audition Required
Type of Audition Style: Ballet

The Joffrey South Ballet Summer Intensive, led by Artistic Director Colleen Barnes, offers dancers an intimate, supportive, and rigorous ballet training experience designed to strengthen technique, artistry, discipline, and confidence. Through focused classical training and complementary contemporary movement practices, students are challenged to grow beyond their expectations while developing the versatility and professional habits required of today鈥檚 dancers.

A Ballet audition is required for admission to this intensive. Students may audition in person or digitally. Students must be 8 years of age by June 7, 2027 in order to audition and be considered for the this program. Students can not be over 18 years of age.
Students do not need to attend a separate audition for every Summer Intensive they are interested in. By completing a Ballet audition, dancers are automatically considered for all Summer Intensives within the Ballet audition style for which they meet the stated age requirements.

Students train in a full-day intensive environment designed to build technique, artistry, and versatility. A typical day begins with classes in the morning, followed by an approximately 30鈥45 minute lunch break, with short 5鈥15 minute breaks between classes. Training then continues through the late afternoon or early evening with additional classes, specialty training, and/or rehearsals. Students attending the final week of the program will focus on the rehearsal and performance process and should expect to have 1 to 2 technique classes a day followed by rehearsals.
The curriculum may include Ballet Technique, Pointe/Variations, Conditioning for Dance, Injury Prevention, Contemporary, Jazz, Modern, and Improvisation. Please note that certain classes may be offered only to select levels based on age, placement, and experience. Registered students will receive an exact schedule the week before the intensive start date.

Dancers are assigned to training groups based on their audition and age and may be additionally evaluated during the first day of classes.
Studio assignments are determined by program scheduling, group placement, and enrollment. Requests for a particular studio location cannot be accommodated.
For students registered for housing, residence hall assignments are made based on several factors, which may include age, gender, program selection, dates of attendance, and available space. Requests for specific dorm building assignments cannot be guaranteed.
